Kiwi Margarita

The Kiwi Margarita is a fun little cocktail that’s easy to make and easy to drink. It’s made with fresh kiwi, lime, white tequila, and carbonated mineral water. It’s bubbly and a little fruity, with a Tajin salty rim.

Kiwi Margarita

I recently met a friend for a drink and apps, and while we were ordering I realized that I don’t have a “signature drink”. I mean, I guess it doesn’t have to be “signature“, but I don’t think I actually even have a favorite.

Make Your Own Signature Cocktail

I love margaritas, and not just when I’m eating Mexican food. A good dirty martini is fantastic, but we’re not exclusive. I don’t do Pina Coladas; those are way too sweet and heavy. Mojitos are just ok, and I love Margaritas but I’m pretty picky about mine and definitely don’t care to have the cheap lime green things served at a lot of Mexican restaurants.

Usually, if I can’t make up my mind I’ll order a cranberry and vodka, sometimes with pineapple or lime.

So, I decided I wanted to play around with some combinations and make my own.

Kiwi Margarita

It had to be summery, because summer is my very favorite season, and when cold cocktails are in demand.

After toying with regular vodka, flavored vodkas, whiskey, white and dark tequilas, juice, soft drinks, citrus, crystal light, etc. I think I found my taste.

What is the Kiwi Margarita?

The Kiwi Margarita is not too heavy, not too sweet, and the bubblies make it just perfect. Sparkling mineral water, lime, muddled kiwi and white tequila. It’s so fresh and bubbly and just the right amount of sweet. I love the kiwi in this.

The ratio of kiwi to lime is about 2:1. The kiwi needs to overpower the lime here, and do keep in mind that lime is a strong citrus.

The rim is adorned with Tajin. If you’re not familiar, Tajin is a seasoning blend with lime, chili peppers and sea salt, and they actually sell a salt rimmer here.

I didn’t even know about this until my son told me about it – he dips apple slices in it, and it’s good

Kiwi Margarita

I really like this Kiwi Margarita cocktail because it’s different, a little bubbly and definitely has a little kick. Crushed ice also plays a part in how good this is – that combined with the muddled kiwi is unique.

Big, clunky ice cubes seem to melt faster (notice I said “seem“), and get in the way of everything. If your freezer doesn’t make it throw some in your food processor, it works great.
