Muenster Burger with a Fried Duck Egg

Damn.

Fried duck eggs are big as hell.

IMGP4832
Look at the size of the damn yolk!!

This is the third #foodiefight for me and Adam . The first foodiefight was Bologna Sandwiches; his the traditional way and I chose to do an upgraded version. Want to see? Here’s mine and his, and the second #foodiefight was a nacho competition (I gave him 3 ingredients to use and he wasn’t very happy with me) – see mine and his. Hey, it was a fair fight!!

Today’s #foodiefight is all about the burgers.

Burger with Caramelized Onions and Mushrooms, Fried Jalapeno Slices and a Fried Duck Egg

This is a mixture of half ground round and half Italian sausage, seasoned with just salt and pepper and a little Worcestershire sauce. Both buns are toasted and buttered. The bottom bun is dressed with Thousand Island dressing,  caramelized balsamic sweet onions and sliced mushrooms, and deep fried jalapeno peppers.

That’s followed by the burger done about medium well, topped with melted Muenster cheese and an over medium duck egg for a really nice runny yolk.

Ok, so fresh-from-the-farm eggs really gross Mark out, like to the point that I can’t have them visible in the kitchen. I seriously think that if I crack one of those bastards open in his presence he’ll be certain that the fucking zombie apocalypse will most certainly immediately ensue. How about we clean the microscopic shit off of the shells – oh I don’t know…like we do lettuce, peppers, fruits, etc. SAME SHIT, yo. We’re cleaning off dirt from the fucking ground where the animals SHIT.

FYI I’m not an animal hater – they’re just gross as hell, especially if they think they need to be inside (that would never happen in this house, trust me). I would love to have my own chickens in my back yard, however. I want the Tiffany blue colored eggs. What?? There’s such a thing as Easter eggers. They give you pretty little blue eggs and what not.

Back to the burger –

So, duck eggs are no joke – they’re big as all hell. Seriously, I thought this yolk would never stop running. That’s not a bad thing – especially when you’re shooting pics!

The combination of fried jalapenos, Italian sausage in the burger and that damn egg was OMG. Not to mention the balsamic onions and mushrooms. Yes, it’s a knife and fork burger. I’m not a-damn-shamed.

Is it indulgent? Um, yep. What do you think?

Italian Sausage and Beef Burger with Balsamic Caramelized Onions and Mushrooms, Fried Jalapenos, Muenster Cheese and a Fried Duck Egg

Ingredients

  • 1/2 pound ground round
  • 1/2 pound ground Italian sausage (I used turkey Italian sausage)
  • 1 tbsp seasoned salt
  • 1 tsp onion powder
  • 1 tsp pepper
  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 3 tbsp salted butter
  • 1/2 onion, sliced
  • 8 oz. canned mushrooms, sliced
  • 1 tbsp balsamic vinegar
  • Fried Jalapeno Slices
  • Muenster cheese slices
  • 4 burger buns, split and toasted
  • Thousand Island dressing
  • 4 eggs (I happened to have duck eggs on hand, but regular eggs will certainly do), fried over medium

Instructions

  • Combine ground round, sausage, salt, onion powder, pepper and Worcestershire in a mixing bowl and form into 4 patties; refrigerate for 30 minutes.
  • Melt butter in a large pan over medium heat; add onion, mushrooms and vinegar. Stir until caramelized. Remove from heat and cover. Don't rinse the pan.
  • Add the burgers and cook over medium on each side 3-5 minutes, until done. Add cheese slices and cover until melted.
  • Make the eggs.
  • Serve burgers by slathering Thousand Island on the bottom buns, onions and mushrooms, fried jalapenos, burger and finally egg. Top with bun.

You know what I like about these #foodiefights? You go so over-the-top with your creations that I honestly expect to see them in some sort of trendy foods list somewhere. Excellent job, Shea. Where the hell do I get duck eggs, aside from robbing a nesting mom?

Adam LOL! Shit…I don’t even know besides going to a local farm and asking if you can coax a couple of willing ducks to get off their asses. And forgive me, I didn’t even see these comments until I did some “housecleaning” on my site today. WordPress really pisses me off.
