Why This Recipe Works
Most onion dips rely on dried onion soup mix for flavor. This one goes all in on real onions.
The sweet onions are coated in a seasoned flour mixture and fried until golden brown, creating the same crispy texture that makes a Bloomin’ Onion so addictive. Those crunchy onions are then layered into a creamy mixture of cream cheese, sour cream, and a tangy copycat dipping sauce flavored with ketchup, horseradish, and paprika.
The result is a warm, savory dip that combines crunchy onions, creamy cheese, and just enough zip from the horseradish to keep you coming back for another scoop.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can I make Bloomin’ Onion Dip ahead of time?
Yes. Assemble the dip up to one day in advance and refrigerate until ready to bake. Add the crispy onions just before baking so they stay crunchy.
What kind of onion works best?
Sweet onions such as Vidalia onions are ideal because they become buttery sweet when fried.
Can I use store-bought crispy fried onions?
You can, but freshly fried onions provide the best flavor and texture, and more reminiscent of the restaurant appetizer.
How do I store leftovers?
Store leftover dip in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 4 days.
Can I reheat this dip?
Absolutely. Reheat in a 300-degree oven until warmed through or put individual portions in the air fryer as needed.

In your instructions, why do you cool the onions? There are no instructions on what to do with them. Do you make onion rings, seeing how you have 1 cup oil for frying. Thank you for clearing this up.
Hi Lisa,
Thanks so much for your comment, and for bringing this to my attention! The “cooling” instruction was a typo. I tested this recipe a couple of different ways before settling on one that worked best, and I like to fry the onion rings and then roughly chop them. Alternatively, you could chop the onions, toss them in flour mixture and fry – you get more “crunchies” this way – but it’s really just personal preference. I’m updating the post to reflect the changes.
Thanks again!
It sounds delicious, and I plan to make it for a Friendsgiving celebration! I do wonder if half of step 4 was printed in step 2?
